Wallpapering. There is nothing better to teach you patience and to help you let go of your perfectionism. AMIRIGHT?! I can’t tell you how many times I second guessed myself whenever I got to a difficult part or the window wall. But rest assured there is very little that is more satisfying then looking at a newly wallpapered room.
For the Fall 2020 One Room Challenge I am doing my daughter Violet’s entire room in wallpaper and this weekend we finally finished it! Here is the post to week one and all my plans. It was a big undertaking that took a couple hours each day to get done. To say it transformed the little builder grade room is kind of an understatement. I love how it turned out so much and can’t wait to put everything together that I have planned.
Wallpaper is in and using it in bold ways is even more so.
Chris Loves Julia gives us an example of what the modern cottage wallpaper can do to a space. I love the traditional painted cabinetry with the soft vertical lines of the wallpaper and the funky ceilings.
Bathrooms are a fun place to use wallpaper and add a lot of style. Studio McGee used this beautiful classic William Morris Wallpaper in there daughters bathroom and it is show stopping. The mixed metals and sleek modern lines of the furniture beautifully juxtapositions with the floral/botanical pattern.
Designer Julie Howel used wallpaper in this entry and its the best kind of surprise and welcome into the home.
And lastly my laudry closet makeover I did last year that was less than $100 and so so so worth it.
HOW I FIND AFFORDABLE WALLPAPER & OTHER TIPS
Number 1 – Try Pre-pasted/Traditional wallpaper. Wallpaper that is peel-n-stick is always more expensive. Look for pre-pasted or traditional glue method to save some bucks. And personally I think it is easier to apply then the peel-n-stick.
Number 2 – Wallpaper today is not what your Granny had. The adhesive has come along way and very rarely will ruin your walls. So look for the cheaper option and just look for the words strippable or temporary or removable. It will come off in big strips once you tire of it no problem.
Number 3 – Wallpaper does not have to cost an arm and a leg. It is measured in square feet. So after I find the square footage of what I need (plus add 10% extra for waste) I like to look for wallpaper that is under the $1.00/sf. Obviously splurge on that if you want but there are afforable good wallpaper options out there. All the wallpaper I have used in projects has been less than $.75/sf. very affordable and not to mention renter friendly.
Number 4 – Look at reviews, quality and roll length. I like to look at reviews people have written on what the paper quality is and how easy the application is. I like to also look at the length and the s/f amount of the roll.
I’ve rounded up some of my current favorite cottage like wallpapers that are budget friendly and affordable.
Have I convinced you of the awesomeness of wallpaper yet!?
With Love,
Kayla
