“Boob lights” might sound a little naughty but I promise everyone knows what kind of light I am referring too. The term is used to describe a specific type of basic, flush-mounted ceiling light fixture that resembles a breast shape and typically has a “nipple” fastener in the middle. There are several reasons why you may want to consider changing out these fixtures:
- Aesthetic Appeal: Many people find boob lights unattractive or outdated in terms of design. By replacing them with more modern or timeless light fixtures, you can enhance the overall aesthetics of your living space.
- Personal Style: Light fixtures play a significant role in defining the style and ambiance of a room. Changing out boob lights allows you to align the lighting with your personal style and decor choices, whether it’s contemporary, industrial, rustic, or any other design theme.
- Improved Lighting Performance: Boob lights typically feature a single light bulb or a few small bulbs pointing downward, which may not provide sufficient lighting for larger spaces or specific tasks. Upgrading to fixtures with multiple bulbs, adjustable light angles, or different lighting options can improve overall illumination and flexibility.
- Energy Efficiency: Older boob lights may use outdated incandescent bulbs, which consume more energy and generate more heat than energy-efficient alternatives like LED bulbs. Switching to energy-saving light fixtures and bulbs can reduce electricity consumption and lower utility bills in the long run.
- Customization and Functionality: Many modern light fixtures offer customization options and advanced features, such as dimming capabilities, remote control, or smart home integration. These additional functionalities can enhance convenience, comfort, and create a more personalized lighting experience.
- Resale Value: If you’re planning to sell your home in the future, replacing boob lights with more appealing and contemporary fixtures can improve the overall perceived value of the property. It may attract potential buyers and contribute to a positive first impression.
As an interior designer, boob lights are a hard pass for me. The lighting in rentals or building grade homes will most likely have these. It doesn’t cost much to replace them for better alternatives. Most are under $50 and a couple around the $75 dollar range! They will all most likely get here quick. Look on Youtube for videos on how to DIY and switch out light fixtures.
